A Long Tradition of Care
Salisbury City Almshouse and Welfare Charities have a long history, dating back to the 14th Century, of caring for needy elderly people within the Salisbury area.
Our Almshouse sites and accommodation
We have over 150 Ordinary Sheltered almshouses at 10 sites in and around the city of Salisbury and two Very Sheltered sites with nearly 40 flats for people who require additional support but are not ready for residential care. Many of our homes are modern purpose-built flats and others are within historical listed buildings, but they all offer comfortable homes for life, or until such time as Residents can no longer manage to live independently.
View our accommodationOur Approach to Almshouse Living
We aim to provide low-cost, high quality housing for independent older people in need within a friendly and safe community environment with Warden support. Our Almshouses have modern facilities and provide one-bedroom self-contained, affordable accommodation which is secure, convenient and where Residents can come and go as they please.

Community Life and Ongoing Support
Communal facilities offer Residents the opportunity to socialise and become involved with leisure activities. Keen gardeners can enjoy pottering in the gardens and courtyards. As Residents get older, more support is often required and the Charities pride themselves on meeting their needs for as long as we can. We cannot offer personal care but can help to ensure that Residents who are in need benefit from the various services provided by external agencies and related organisations.

Social Housing for Families in Need
Whilst most of our accommodation is for the elderly, the Buchanan Housing Charity allows us to offer a small number of low-cost social housing units to accommodate eligible young families and single parents in Salisbury.
